Year 10 Food and Nutrition pupils took part in an engaging and hands-on cooking demonstration delivered by Stewart Williams and Steff Evans from Castell Howell Foods Ltd. The lessons focussed on preparing a delicious fish risotto, providing pupils with a valuable opportunity to develop practical cooking skills while gaining an insight into the food sector. During the demonstration the pupils were guided through the key steps of preparing fresh fish, understanding it’s nutritional benefits, and mastering the techniques required to create a creamy, flavourful risotto. They observed professional methods and were encouraged to ask questions, deepening their understanding of cooking processes and kitchen safety. Along with developing culinary skills, the session also highlighted potential career pathways within the food industry sector.
By embedding employer engagement into the curriculum, pupils benefit from authentic learning experiences and raise aspirations, build confidence, and enhance their understanding of future career opportunities.
