Ten pupils from Y12 were successful in their application to attend a World of Work day with, the predominantly welsh language broadcaster, S4C. S4C have recently announced that they will be relocating their head office to Carmarthen by January 2018. The new headquarters will provide 55 jobs, as well as provide premises for over 20 smaller businesses with close links to the broadcaster and the media industry.
The day was arranged in collaboration with University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Carmarthenshire County Council and other partners to attract and identify a pool of local individuals. The pupils were given an insight into the work and skills that will be needed by the potential workforce in time for the official opening in 2018. The day consisted of presentations from S4C staff to highlight the diverse career opportunities in the company, an inspirational speech by a key role model who works in the creative industry and a number of interactive workshops and challenges associated to the sector. The pupils had an interactive and informative day, which has hopefully provided them with the understanding and motivation needed to succeed in their studies.
