The Ysgwrn? What is that? Well ask one of the Year 10 or 12 pupils who study Welsh First & Second Language and they’ll tell you that it is the home of the poet Hedd Wyn. Students had an unforgettable day visiting Trawsfynydd in Snowdonia, where they met Mr. Gerald Evans, Hedd Wyn’s nephew. The visit added greatly to their knowledge of the poet, his life and writing all of which will be extremely useful for their GCSE Welsh. They learned about the symbolism of Black Chair Birkenhead, how the film ‘Hedd Wyn’ was filmed, along with country life at the turn of the last century in rural Wales. The school was represented impeccably by the pupils who are hoping for another trip to the north very soon!
