Holocaust Memorial Event
Year 10 pupils recently represented Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn at the Carmarthenshire County Council Holocaust Memorial Event.
Although taking place at a later date than usual due to COVID-19 restrictions, the ten pupils were given the opportunity to learn lessons from the past, including hearing the remarkable personal testimony of Holocaust survivor Eva Clarke – a woman born in a concentration camp. Eva Clarke was one of only three babies born in Mauthausen concentration camp who survived the Holocaust. She was born on the 29th April 1945, just a day after the Nazis had destroyed the camp’s gas chambers and less than a week before its liberation.
The pupils, studying History and Religious Studies at GCSE, will now collaborate and share their experiences from the event with other learners in their year group focussing primarily on reducing inequality and overcoming the barriers of prejudice and discrimination.
