Carmarthen Art Trip

On Friday 8th February, a selection of pupils from the More Able & Talented in Art group attended a workshop in the Oriel Myrddin, Carmarthen.  In January, the gallery launched ‘The Building Project’, a participatory installation where members of the local community create plaster casts of houses for display ‘en masse’ in the gallery.  Pupils were impressed with the evocative miniature settlement that had already been created and were keen to add their own houses to it.

Pupils learnt about making moulds using nets and 3D shapes as well as mixing and pouring plaster. Working in pairs, students made a house of their design and were invited to place it within a space of their choosing amongst the other buildings in the exhibition thus enhancing their feelings of ownership, community and collaboration.

The exhibition will be touring to Dinefwr Mansion later in spring.

Workshops will continue to take place until 2nd March 2019.  All sessions are FREE to attend.
