A Level Composers Workshop

Our A Level Music pupils have made the most of a very rare opportunity to meet the composers of the pieces they are studying for their exam. For the first time all the A Level set works for one unit are written by living Welsh composers. Andrew Wilson-Dickson and Lynne Plowman performed their own compositions, on piano and flute, as well as a third piece by Rhian Samuel. The professional composers, and lecturers at The Royal Welsh College of Music, went on to explain the inspirations and processes behind their compositions, to help the pupils with their exam preparation. Andrew Wilson-Dickson even brought along his grandmother’s old wind-up gramophone to play the traditional Argentine music that had inspired his excellent piece, Tango Passacaglia.
