Our students constantly perform well in public examinations and are also successful in regional and National competitions. The work of the department has also been featured in National newspapers, radio and television. Students’ work has also featured in exhibitions in Wales and Ireland as part of a European cultural exchange programme.
We have forged strong links with a number of contemporary artists, designers and craftspeople. These individuals readily offer their time and expertise to assist our students with varying aspects of their work as well as offering work experience and opportunities. Among these artists are Aneurin Jones (painter), David Beattie (etcher), Pete Davis (photographer), Seb Boyesen (sculptor), Paul Clarke (carver) and Yoka Kilkelly (potter). We also have strong links with The National Woollen Museum, The Welsh Wildlife Centre and the Welsh Museum of Childhood. These centres have been used as venues for practical workshops often given by guest practicioners. They are also used for research for various projects.
Many of our students opt to continue with their art education after completing their examinations. We have an excellent relationship with Coleg Sir Gar and members of their art staff regularly visit the school to offer advice on courses and career opportunities
Some former students are making a name for themselves as artists and they frequently acknowledge the contribution that their experiences with us has made to their careers. To name one who is currently making a name for herself is Eloise Govier whose work is selling at major galleries in London, New York and Tokyo.
For a small school this is a big department.
