Year 8 learners spent the latter half of the summer term in Geography making models to demonstrate the different methods of showing height. These models were the outcome of the ‘Contours and Landscapes’ unit and Year 8 had a great deal of fun making these models.

As well as being a fun and engaging task, it benefitedlearners by offering them an opportunity to achieve outcomes in a more practical way while still meeting the requirements of the National

Curriculum in Wales Programme of Study. As well as creating the models, learners also produced detailed ‘making’ instructions which ensured that they demonstrated their literacy ability; not only by organising ideas and information but also by writing accurately. Both of these are fundamental elements of the Literacy and Numeracy Framework (LNF).
