The second PSHE Day at Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn has taken place with a variety of themes designed to raise awareness of important lifelong issues and safety and wellbeing.  Year 7 worked on raising awareness of Young Carers with Carmarthenshire Young Carers and Hywel Dda Health Trust on the dangers of smoking as well as healthy eating sessions to support the Welsh Government Healthy Schools project.  Year 8 worked with the Carmarthenshire Road Safety Unit on safe travel on roads as pedestrians, bicyclists and as passengers as well as sessions on alcohol awareness.  Year 8 also worked on topics on Body Image and Sense of Self, the school is committed to supporting young people’s mental health and wellbeing by educating on issues of self-esteem and the impact of media on young people’s mental health.  Year 9 continued looking at the issue of Human rights as well as how media can influence attitudes and beliefs as part of the school’s citizenship programme.  In addition Mid and West Wales Fire service led a raising awareness session on the dangers of smoke and the importance of smoke alarms whilst Dyfed-Powys Police looked at social media and how young people can stay safe on line.
