In September two final year Cardiff Medical Students visited the school to present a master class to aspiring Medical Students of the future, as part of Cardiff University’s “Widening Participation Programme. Several Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn students as well as some from other local schools were given a valuable insight into the demands of becoming a doctor as well as some of the many rewards.

Following the presentation, the medics of the future faced an accident and emergency simulation where they had to take the part of Doctors and Paramedics at a road traffic accident. Expertly guided by the two Medical Students, the pupils were shown how to take vital measurements and how to do CPR.

The pupils gained a valuable insight into what it is like to be a Medical Student, how to apply, and what the course is like at Cardiff and what being a Doctor is really like. The school would like to thank the two Medical Students for their efforts and their GP practices, in Newcastle Emlyn and Pembroke Dock, for allowing them time off to inspire our pupils.
