New Extended Work Placement Programme

John Jones, year 13 and Tom Knott-Jones year 12 are the first pupils to take part in a new pilot scheme to be launched in September.
The pupils will be enrolled in our extended work placement programme in association with Xcel bowl in Carmarthen and sponsored by The Wales and West Housing Association; the company voted the top ‘Not for Profit’ organisation in Wales 2018.

John and Tom will spend two days a week at Xcel bowl where they will join a dedicated team to offer an important service to the locality.  They will be involved in helping out at the bowling alley, the food bank, the on-site charity shop and the café.  The pair have already taken part in a ‘taster day’ where they found themselves knee deep in suds at the venue’s café’s kitchen in what can only be described as a ‘full on’ day of hard work, but at the same time whetting their appetite for their progression into the next academic year.

We would not have been able to offer this valuable programme if it wasn’t for the support of Xcel Bowl for providing the placement and the Wales and West Housing Association for providing the funding to allow our pupils to travel to and from Carmarthen each week.  Our grateful thanks is extended to these two companies.
