On Wednesday the 13th of December, seven pupils from years 7 and 9 took part in the 2017 First Lego League competition at the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea. The team consisted of Thomas Woodthorpe, Daniel Wilson, Adam Macpherson, Ryan Kreuzbichler, Max Vingerhoet, George Labram and Thomas Jones. Throughout the day the boys had to complete various challenges which included a Project Presentation, a demonstration of the robot they created and its technical design, as well as showcasing their teamwork skills in a core values task. There was also a robot game where the team had to program their robot in order to complete various tasks in order to collect points. The team had been preparing for the event since September, having been expertly mentored by Edward Upton and Joseph Stadius of the sixth form, who took the time to teach the boys following their own success last year.

It was a very successful day for the team as they came first in the technical design category for their robot, as well as finishing second in the robot game. These were excellent results especially as it was the first time for the boys to take part in this competition. Da iawn pawb, the future of robotics is bright at Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn.
