Pupils have enjoyed another successful athletics season this year which all started back in April with the Dyfed relays and 800m event in Carmarthen. The pupils particularly enjoy competing in the relay and this is a great event to get experience of running on the all-weather track in front of a crowd. All pupils excelled themselves and competed in some very close races.

Wednesday 23rd May was another fantastic day of sporting achievement for the pupils of YGE, with over 70 pupils travelling to Carmarthen to take part in the Ceredigion Schools Athletics Championships. All the pupils were a credit to the school, showing talent, determination and teamwork throughout a long day of events. There were many star performers including Carys Evans, Ffion Lloyd, Fiona Campbell and Andreas Ellis-Hedd who all won their events. Many others finished in the top three of their events and will now go on to represent Ceredigion Schools at the Dyfed Schools Championships on Saturday 16th June. Well done to all!

Thursday 7th June saw pupils compete in the NASUWT Athletics cup competition at Tregaron. This is a team event with pupils gaining points for the position they achieve in their retrospective event. Once again the pupils enjoyed the competition in very hot conditions and represented the school with tenacity and solidarity.

The Dyfed Sports held on Saturday 16th June at the track in Carmarthen gave many pupils the chance to compete against very strong opposition from across the region. A number of pupils took this opportunity and performed well in their events.  Chloe Fox won the Middle girls shot putt and along with Jo Worrall has now been chosen to represent Dyfed at the Welsh Athletic Championships to be held in Brecon on 7th July. Good luck to both of them.

Pupils will soon be preparing for the annual school sports day on Friday 6th July 2018.
